Cameroon intends to expand military-technical cooperation with Russia to combat terrorism, Cameroon's Minister for Defense Joseph Beti Assomo has stated.The minister outlined that cooperation between the two nations is strong, rich, sincere and mutually beneficial. At the same time, he stressed that both parties are eager to have a more ambitious partnership that will make a real contribution to strengthening the sovereignty of the nations.The politician pointed out that cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense and security is aimed at eradicating terrorism. According to him, the African continent is now at a crossroads and its huge resources are in demand more than ever. He expressed hope that joint efforts in the struggle for African security in partnership with Russia will inspire other countries.Assomo outlined that African nations today need to create modern and effective military systems, as well as political and diplomatic leadership and authority to effectively face difficulties and challenges. For that, he stressed, the continent needs sincere and meaningful partnerships, such as the one Cameroon has with Russia.Recently, on the sidelines of Russia's Army-2023 Forum held near Moscow, Chiakor Alfred Orkuma, head of strategic innovation at the Ashcroft Centre for Social Science Research in Abuja, Nigeria, stated that the level of engagement between Moscow and Abuja in the military sphere area has not been as strong as desired.However, he expressed hope that the current forum and discussions taking place during the Army-2023 will serve as "a turning point for good and robust engagement in bilateral cooperation militarily."
