The 15th BRICS Summit will be held in Johannesburg, in South Africa's Gauteng Province, where leaders of the world's emerging economies are expected to address several issues, including mutual cooperation and widening the club's membership.
A soon-to-be historic and global significant event, the BRICS Summit, will be held in Johannesburg, the capital city of Gauteng province. Barba Gaoganediwe, Gauteng Tourism Authority spokesperson, emphasized that this historic event presents a valuable opportunity to explore sustainable solutions to South Africa's energy security challenges.
Set to take place from August 22-24 at the Sandton Convention Centre, the 15th BRICS Summit comes at a time when Eskom, South Africa's national power utility, is implementing daily power cuts to prevent the collapse of the national grid.
According to Gaoganediwe, the summit promises to be an arena for fruitful discussions on energy security and an opportunity to create partnerships to address the sector's pressing issues.

"The contingencies around the power supply and the announcement by the electricity minister reassures us that energy securities will also be at the core. It will not just be provision of energy security but using the BRICS platform to look at co-operation around a long sustainable way of addressing issues of our energy insecurity, including water insecurities in some parts," the spokesperson said.

Gaoganediwe added that South Africa would be using the BRICS platform to "highlight our challenges, mobilise partners and equally get the benefits to be reaped by locals."
In his weekly update on the Energy Action Plan, South Africa's Minister of Power, Kgosientso Ramokgopa, said on Sunday that if power cuts are necessary, Johannesburg, where BRICS leaders are meeting, will be expected to play its part in securing the national grid.
South Africa, one of the continent's most developed countries, is currently struggling with a severe energy crisis that threatens to undermine economic stability. The crisis has led to frequent blackouts lasting up to hours to protect the national grid from a total breakdown.
