Earlier, US ambassador to South Africa Reuben Brigety claimed that the Russian ship Lady R had received weaponry from South Africa in December 2022. The demands for the envoy's expulsion are intensifying after a special independent commission created by President Cyril Ramaphosa found no confirmation of Brigety's claims.
The US ambassador to South Africa must leave the African nation if he lied about arms supplies to Russia, Adriaan Basson, editor-in-chief of the local portal News 24 has recently stated.
Basson has recalled that last May, at a press briefing, Brigety said that he could put his life on the line that South Africa supplied weapons to Russia with via Lady R.
According to the editor-in-chief, now it's time for the envoy to take responsibility for his words.
The Russian vessel, Lady R, is docked at the Simon's Town Naval Base near Cape Town, South Africa, Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022. The U.S. ambassador to South Africa has accused the country of providing weapons to Russia. Ambassador Reuben Brigety said the U.S. government was certain that weapons were loaded onto a cargo ship that docked secretly at a naval base near the city of Cape Town for three days in December. - Sputnik Africa, 1920, 08.08.2023

Calls to Expel or Recall US Ambassador to South Africa 'Growing Louder': SA Media
A few days ago, a number of leading media outlets raised the question of the need to expel the US ambassador for his baseless allegations, which led, among other things, to a fall in the exchange rate of the national currency against the dollar due to concerns about the threat of Western sanctions against South Africa.
Brigety made his claims on May 11 this year. After that, the South African Foreign Ministry expressed its dissatisfaction with the envoy's performance.
Later, he apologized to the country, saying that he had crossed the line in his statements.
