Biden Asks Congress for $13 Billion in Additional Military Aid For Ukraine
In June, the US Department of Defense on Tuesday announced a package of additional military aid to Ukraine worth $500 million, including a wide range of military equipment, including infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, anti-aircraft systems, as well as more munitions.
US President Joe Biden in a letter to Congress is asking for an additional $13 billion in supplemental funding to continue military assistance to Ukraine next year.
"$9.5 billion for equipment for Ukraine and replenishment of DOD stocks; and $3.6 billion for continued military, intelligence, and other defense support," the document said.
Biden is also asking for $7.3 billion for economic, humanitarian, and security
assistance to Ukraine.
Since February 2022, more than $75 billion have been pledged by the US government in various types of assistance to Ukraine. Total aid from NATO and the European Union and their partners to Ukraine exceeded $160 billion.
However, the shift towards ending Ukraine Aid is seen in the US society. A poll published last week showed that 55% of Americans are against additional funding to support
Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, while 45% disagree.
Moreover, last Wednesday, Diane Sare, an independent candidate for the US Senate from New York, told Sputnik that the recent vote in the Senate showed the
increasing number of lawmakers in favor of ending the funding.
As for Russia's position on the issue, in June, the country's Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov told media that the US government "prolongs the bloodshed" by providing military assistance for Ukraine.
