The shift to greener energy sources and the net-zero goals set by governments across the globe mean increased demand for key battery metals such as lithium, which is used in the production of batteries for various tech items, ranging from laptops to electric cars.As a result of continued exploration, identified lithium resources worldwide have increased significantly to approximately 98 million tonnes.In this light, Africa is becoming a major supplier of the metal, which is essential for the so-called green transition.According to S&P Global Commodity Insights, mines across the continent will increase production of lithium by more than 30 times from last year’s volume by 2027.
