South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will use his presence at the Russia–Africa summit to promote the peace initiative on Ukraine previously presented by African leaders, a British news outlet has reported, citing unnamed South African officials.
Earlier, a source close to the organizers of the meeting told Sputnik that the participants of the African peace initiative expect to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 28 in St. Petersburg.

In June, Putinheld a meeting in St. Petersburg with a representative delegation of African leaders, which included South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Senegalese President Macky Sall, Comoros President Othman Ghazali, and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema. The delegation arrived in St. Petersburg from Kiev, where it had previously met with Volodymyr Zelensky.
The African initiative on the settlement of the Ukraine crisis, which consists of 10 points, was presented to the Russian president. The key aspects of the initiative concern guarantees of security, freedom of movement of grain across the Black Sea, the release of prisoners of war, and the early start of negotiations.
