Expectations vs Reality: African Journalists Sum Up Experience in Moscow
Sputnik Africa
As we bid our African friends farewell, journalists from AfroVerdict's previous episode share their experience from their first visit to Moscow.
Stereotypes about Russia spread far and wide, and the African continent is no exception. Common expectations from our friends included seeing a 'war zone' and 'soldiers all over'.Western movies and media have created notions of Russians being perceived as 'spies, deadly, killer', according to Tebogo Mokoto, a GABZ FM radio host from Botswana. He recalls when he along with his colleagues got lost in Moscow's metro and a random stranger dropped them off at their subway station, and then went back to her original destination. Jotting down a summary of her experiences in Moscow, Kenyan journalist at The Star Grace Anyango, said that the city appeared to be 'so secure'.Tune in to hear what the rest of the group has to say about their stay in Moscow! In addition to the website, you can also catch our episodes on Telegram.► You can also listen to our podcast on Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Castbox, Pocket Casts, Deezer, Podcast Addict and Afripods.► Check out all the episodes of AfroVerdict.

As we bid farewell to our African friends from the previous episode, they join AfroVerdict to share their experience from their first visit to Moscow.
Stereotypes about Russia spread far and wide, and the African continent is no exception. Common expectations from our friends included seeing a 'war zone' and 'soldiers all over'.
"But when we got here, I didn’t see any soldiers. That was the first confirmation that Russia is calm," Tricya Musansi, a journalist from Forum des As, the DRC, says.
Western movies and media have created notions of Russians being perceived as 'spies, deadly, killer', according to Tebogo Mokoto, a GABZ FM radio host from Botswana.
He recalls when he along with his colleagues got lost in Moscow's metro and a random stranger dropped them off at their subway station, and then went back to her original destination.
"For me that has been really earthshattering and it has changed my mind and evolved my mind to a certain extent. Ignorance is not bliss when it comes what I've experienced here," he says.
Jotting down a summary of her experiences in Moscow, Kenyan journalist at The Star Grace Anyango, said that the city appeared to be 'so secure'.
"Back home you can't walk with your phone, someone would rather cut your ear ... coming here everyone has their phone in their hands, they do whatever, they take videos and stuff," she recalls.
Tune in to hear what the rest of the group has to say about their stay in Moscow!
