Former South African President Jacob Zuma is receiving medical care in Russia, according to a Friday statement from the Jacob Zuma Foundation.
Zuma, according to the foundation, departed the African nation last week and is going to return to South Africa "once his doctors have completed their treatment."

The foundation has also commented on reports regarding Zuma's whereabouts, that appeared earlier in the day in South African media, noting that "although the trip was private, it was not a secret as incorrectly suggested. H.E. President Zuma and his team travelled on a commercial flight full of passengers."

Previous media reports claimed that the former South African president flew commercially to Russia on Monday, accompanied by six VIP guards paid for by the state.
In a separate report by South Africa's News24, Zuma's spokesperson, Mzwanele Manyi, confirmed that the ex-president is currently receiving medical care in Moscow and is expected to return home next week.

"He went for medical check ups. He has not been feeling well," Manyi told the South African news website, confirming that Zuma was in Moscow.
