On July 9, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa officially confirmed that the forthcoming BRICS summit, scheduled for August and to which all leaders of the member states, including Russia's President Vladimir Putin, have been invited, will be "physical."
The heads of all five BRICS member states will attend the organization's summit in South Africa, which will be held in person, a local news outlet has reported, citing the head of the BRICS Business Council, Stavrous Nichalouw.

"Expect a number of heads of states. But importantly, the five BRICS heads of states will attend the forum," Nichalouw said at a meeting of the council.

In addition, RSA President Cyril Ramaphosa again noted that the BRICS summit will be held in person.

"There were rumors that this too could become an online summit – no. It is going to be face to face, eyeball to eyeball," the president stated.

BRICS Set to Welcome All African Leaders to Summit, South African Representative Says
Later, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the format of the BRICS summit has not been fully decided upon, so discussions continue.
"The format has not been fully decided upon yet, discussions are continuing. After the final decision is made, we will inform you about it," Peskov told a briefing.
Earlier, when speaking about the possibility of the personal participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the BRICS summit in South Africa, Peskov said that as soon as the president makes a decision, the Kremlin will inform journalists.
In March, the International Criminal Court (ICC), based in The Hague (Netherlands), issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin in connection with the alleged unauthorized removal of children from Ukraine's conflict zone.
Vladimir Putin earlier stated that Russia was saving children, not "stealing them," and that this happened on completely legal grounds, since the orphanages from which the kids were transported were their legal representatives.
The Head of State also emphasized that the Russian authorities have never objected to children being reunited with their families.
"We took them out of the conflict zone, saving their lives and health. No one was going to separate the children from their families," he stressed.
According to the Kremlin, the ruling of the ICC plays no role for Russia, because the country is not a party to the ICC.
At the same time, Peskov stated that Moscow aims to clarify South Africa's position on its membership in the International Criminal Court as part of bilateral talks before the BRICS heads of state summit, as South Africa, being a party to the Rome Statute, is obliged to carry out the arrest warrant for Putin.
BRICS unites Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. A number of other countries intend to join the economic bloc, including Argentina, Iran, as well as, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt.
