MOSCOW (Sputnik) Malik Agar, the deputy chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council, arrived in Moscow on Thursday to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the Sudanese embassy told Sputnik.
During the Thursday meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Malik Agar, the deputy chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council, Lavrov said that Russia is watching the situation in Sudan with concern and is ready to assist in resolving the conflict, and contacts with interested parties are maintained by the Russian diplomatic mission in Khartoum.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry voiced the intention of the Russian side to develop bilateral cooperation with Sudan.
"We will be grateful for recommendations on how Russia and other members of the international community could contribute to overcoming the crisis. We will take this opportunity to review our bilateral cooperation and outline ways for its further development," the minister said.
On April 15, violent clashes broke out between the Sudanese regular armed forces and the RSF paramilitary group, with the epicenter located in Khartoum.
The United Nations estimates that at least 958 people were killed and 4,700 injured in the clashes, while over 2.1 million persons were forced to leave their homes.
