Armed Mutiny in Russia Plays Into Hands of Moscow's Adversaries Abroad: Foreign Ministry
17:23 24.06.2023 (Updated: 17:29 24.06.2023) The Foreign Ministry's statements come in the wake of the armed mutiny by Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner Group. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, it is a betrayal of Russia and its people caused by excessive ambition and personal interests.
Russian society firmly
supports the president and the mutiny of the plotters plays into the hands of Russia's external enemies, the Foreign Ministry has said in a statement.
"The conspirators' ventures are essentially aimed at destabilizing the situation in Russia, destroying our unity, and undermining the efforts of the Russian Federation to reliably ensure international security. Thus, the mutiny plays into the hands of Russia's external enemies," it continued.
In this vein, the diplomatic body
cautioned Western countries against any attempt to exploit the situation inside Russia to achieve "Russophobic goals."
According to the ministry, such attempts are "futile" and will find "no resonance" either in Russia or among sensible political forces abroad.
The ministry also reiterated that Russia will continue a sovereign course to ensure its security, protection of values, creation of a fair multipolar world order and all the tasks of the special operation in Ukraine will be fulfilled.
"We are convinced that in the near future the situation will find a solution worthy of the age-old wisdom of the Russian people and the Russian State," the statement concluded.
On Friday, the Federal Security Service and the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia opened a criminal case against Prigozhin for "provoking an armed insurgency".
Putin said that all those responsible for the attempted mutiny would face inevitable punishment, and would be held accountable before the law and the people.
