Al-Shabaab* is a terrorist organization affiliated with al-Qaeda* that has its stronghold in Somalia. For more than 10 years, its militants have been engaged in an armed conflict with the Somali government, seizing significant parts of the southern and central regions of the country and venturing into neighboring nations.
In a renewed attempt to stop al-Shabaab assaults, which are carried out with the help of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), in both Kenya and neighboring Somalia, the Kenyan government is modernizing Kenya Defense Forces and police artillery, according to Defense Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale.
After talking to seniors and community leaders about security concerns in Masalani town in Garissa County, the CS stated that the government would no longer tolerate terrorist attacks in any region of the nation.
