UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) - Russia will continue giving assistance to Mali including helping with their security issues, the United Nations Russian Permanent Representative Vasily Nebenzya said on Friday.
"Russia will continue providing comprehensive assistance to Mali including so as to increase their capacity to meet security challenges," Nebenzya told the UN Security Council.
Earlier, the UN Representative for Mali said that some parts of the country are under continuous
pressure from the Daesh* (Islamic State) terrorist group and the resumption of the peace process would allow more attention to be given to the security issue.
Last month, Mali's Ambassador to the United States Sekou Berthe told Sputnik that the West African nation is
grateful to Russia for its sales of military equipment and is hopeful that Moscow will continue to provide military aid long-term.
Earlier this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone

According to the Kremlin, particular attention was paid to trade and economic ties, including the supply of Russian wheat to Mali, as well as the supply of fertilizers and energy resources. It was noted that he Malian leader
thanked Putin for humanitarian aid, assistance in security, and neutralization of the terrorist threat.
Different military forces, including troops of France,
UN missions, and regional G5 Sahel troops, have been mobilized to the Sahel region, which includes Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, and Mauritania, to fight terrorism.
