Algeria’s president, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is arriving in Moscow Tuesday evening, June 13, on an official visit. The trip, announced in advance albeit without a precise date, is set to last from June 14 to 16, according to official sources.During their talks, the Russian and Algerian presidents are due to discuss bilateral cooperation, in particular a document on in-depth strategic cooperation between the two countries, which is a further development of the strategic partnership agreement signed between the two countries in 2001.Abdelmadjid Tebboune's visit will be an opportunity for the two countries to strengthen their cooperation in a difficult international context, Algerian media notes. The two heads of state are also expected to discuss regional and international issues, in particular the situation in Libya and Mali, as well as the security and economic challenges facing both countries.However, military cooperation between the two countries has been excluded from the agenda during the visit. The focus will be on strategic issues, economic cooperation, health, higher education, culture and communication, according to reports.At the end of 2022, Mr. Tebboune made it clear that he "neither supports nor condemns the Russian operation in Ukraine," with Algeria being "a non-aligned country." He added that he wants "this philosophy to be respected."
