Russia Day is celebrated on June 12. The Russian Embassy in Ethiopia held a state reception a few days before the date.
The Russian Embassy in Ethiopia has organized a celebration of Russia Day with Russian folk songs, dances and a state reception. A performance was given by a group from the school attached to the Russian diplomatic mission in Addis Ababa.
The event was also accompanied by an exhibition highlighting Russian-Ethiopian diplomatic ties.
The occasion likewise marked the 125th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Ethiopia. A photo exhibition dedicated to this event was presented to participants.
Russian ambassador to Ethiopia, Evgeny Terekhin, and Zenebe Kebede, director general of the Europe and America Department of the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcomed the guests.
A few days earlier, Addis Ababa played host to another Russia-related event. In the headquarters of the UN Economic Commission for Africa, a concert and exhibition were held to mark Russian Language Day, celebrated annually on June 6, the birthday of Russian poet Alexander Pushkin.
Pushkin, the creator of the modern literary Russian language, has African origins. According to one of the main versions, Abyssinia (modern-day Ethiopia) was the birthplace of one of his ancestors.
