On May 25, the African continent celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Organization of African Unity, which transformed into the African Union in 2002. The anniversary's origin lies in the continent's joint efforts in fighting against colonialism and all forms of exploitation.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is hosting a reception for the heads of African diplomatic missions in Moscow on Wednesday in honor of Africa Day, recently celebrated.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its congratulations to Africa underlined that Russia values its friendly ties with the continent that date back to the era of the joint struggle against colonialism, when Moscow backed Africa's national liberation movements and the then newly-created African states.
Congratulation messages marking Africa Day also poured in from Russian ambassadors and diplomats across the continent, who video recorded statements in various African languages.
