11:46 29.05.2023 (Updated: 15:52 29.05.2023) Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a member of the governing All Progressives' Congress (APC), was proclaimed the winner of the February 25 presidential election on March 1 by the Nigerian Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with 8,794,726 votes (36%). Tinubu's inauguration takes place on Monday, May 29.

"As president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria I will discharge my duties and perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully and in accordance with the constitution," the politician stated in a live broadcast from the country's capital Abuja.
