Russian PM Mishustin Says Russia, China Will Be Able to Increase Trade to $200 Billion This Year
08:06 23.05.2023 (Updated: 10:48 03.08.2023) SHANGHAI (Sputnik) - Trade between Russia and China could reach $200 billion this year with the intensification of Russian-Chinese cooperation, which will strengthen the economies of both countries, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.
"I am convinced that the deepening of Russian-Chinese interaction and the boosting of cooperation will also have a positive impact on strengthening the economies of both our countries," Mishustin said at a Russian-Chinese business forum.
He said Russia and China may bring their trade in 2023 to $200 billion.
"I am convinced that this year we will fulfill the task set by the heads of our states, to bring mutual trade to $200 billion," Mishustin said.
He said
Russia is ready for new projects with China in the sphere of renewable energy sources and will continue to supply hydrocarbons.
Mishustin added that shipbuilding, the production of civilian drones, and timber industry are promising areas of cooperation between Russia and China.
"Promising areas of cooperation are shipbuilding and the machine tool industry, the production of civilian unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as timber industry," he remarked.
According to Mishustin,
it is necessary for both countries to work harder to ease reciprocal access to agricultural markets and strengthen food security together.
"It is necessary to work more actively to facilitate mutual access to agricultural markets. And jointly strengthen food security," he said.
The Russian prime minister also highlighted another priority area for cooperation between Russia and China, which, in his opinion, is the expansion of air traffic and active use of the potential of the Northern Sea Route.
"Air traffic expansion is among other priorities. And, of course, more active use of the Northern Sea Route's potential - as the shortest route from Asia to Europe," Mishustin added.
On Monday Mishustin has begun his two-day official visit in Shanghai, where he spoke at the Russian-Chinese business forum, attended by heads of leading companies of Russia and China.
After that, the minister is scheduled to visit Beijing, where he will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and hold talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
