The Arab League summit, marked by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's first participation in many years, took place on 19 May in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. After the summit, the participants made a declaration that includes the association's stance regarding the conflict in Sudan.
The countries of the League of Arab States (LAS) stressed that external interference in the internal affairs of Sudan should be prevented, according to the final declaration released after the summit.
"We emphasize the need for de-escalation, dialogue, unification of ranks, ending the suffering of the Sudanese people, preserving the national institutions of the state, preventing its destruction and any external interference in the affairs of the Sudan," the declaration says.
It notes that the meetings of the parties to the conflict in Sudan, which began in Jeddah, are an important step by which this crisis can be ended.

Moscow Welcomes Syria’s Return to LAS, Foreign Ministry Says
There has been fighting in Sudan since 15 April between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) under the command of Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo and the Armed Forces of Sudan (the regular army). The opposing forces are exchanging contradictory statements about success in combat and control over objects, having launched a large-scale information war in media and social networks.
According to the latest data from the World Health Organization, 702 people have been killed and 5,687 injured during the clashes. The situation in the country is not improving, despite the negotiations of the delegations of the parties in Saudi Jeddah. Earlier, a representative of the Saudi Foreign Ministry reported that negotiations are being conducted through intermediaries, their goal is to achieve a stable short-term truce.
At the same time, local media reported on 12 May, citing sources, that the government army and the RSF signed an agreement for the first time, in which they pledged to do everything possible to avoid harm to civilians. The agreement was the first between the two sides since the beginning of the conflict on 15 April.
According to the agreement, the parties undertake to refrain from any attacks that may harm the civilian population, as well as to allow all civilians in Sudan to leave the areas of hostilities and besieged areas, to protect medical workers and public institutions in Sudan.
