Moscow will continue to cooperate with the countries of the Global South to achieve genuine multilateralism and improve the international situation threatened by the West's double standards, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.In an article for Russia in the magazine Global Affairs titled 'Genuine multilateralism and diplomacy vs the "rules-based order"', Russia's top diplomat argued that nations in the Global South, "ranging from east and south-east Asia, the Arab and Muslim world in its entirety, all the way to Africa and Latin America," are concerned that the UN-centered system "is crumbling before our eyes as a result of the West's actions."Lavrov emphasized Russia's appreciation of these nations' "sincere desire" to ensure the settlement of the world's present problems "through honest collective work aimed at agreeing on a balance of interests based on the sovereign equality of states and indivisible security".The article comes as Russia prepares to celebrate the 78th Anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) which recognizes the Soviet Union's leading role in the fight against Nazi Germany and the liberation of Europe during the Second World War.The Russian minister noted that the "decisive contribution" of the Soviet Union and its allies "paved the way for the post-war international order, with the UN Charter as its legal framework". He added that the UN was established to serve as "an embodiment of true multilateralism" that takes on a central coordinating role in international politics.The diplomat suggested that such rules "are being made up on the go and used to counteract the natural processes of the formation and strengthening of new independent centers of development, which are an actual manifestation of multilateralism".Lavrov said that there are efforts being made to restrain emerging world powers through "illegitimate unilateral measures", such as denying access to advanced technology and financial services, excluding them from supply chains, seizing assets, sabotaging the critical infrastructure of competitors, and distorting universally accepted principles and procedures.According to Lavrov, there are various initiatives and groups such as Summits for Democracy, the Alliance for Multilateralism, the Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence, the Global Media Freedom Coalition, and the Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace that have been established by the West to undermine UN-led discussions on relevant issues.He argued that these exclusive projects aim to impose non-consensual decisions that primarily favor the Western nations and are presented as the collective voice of the international community.

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has published an article titled 'Genuine multilateralism and diplomacy vs the "rules-based order"', as Russia prepares to celebrate the 78th Anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) to recognize the Soviet Union's leading role in the fight against Nazi Germany during the Second World War.

and improve the international situation threatened by the West's double standards, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.
In an article for Russia in the magazine Global Affairs titled 'Genuine multilateralism and diplomacy vs the "rules-based order"', Russia's top diplomat argued that nations in the Global South, "ranging from east and south-east Asia, the Arab and Muslim world in its entirety, all the way to Africa and Latin America," are concerned that the UN-centered system "is crumbling before our eyes as a result of the West's actions."
"We will continue to forge productive cooperation with them in the name of improving the international situation, while advancing communication between countries based on the principles of true multilateralism, international law, truth, and justice," Lavrov wrote.
Lavrov emphasized Russia's appreciation of these nations' "sincere desire" to ensure the settlement of the world's present problems "through honest collective work aimed at agreeing on a balance of interests based on the sovereign equality of states and indivisible security".
The article comes as Russia prepares to celebrate the 78th Anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) which recognizes the Soviet Union's leading role in the fight against Nazi Germany and the liberation of Europe during the Second World War.

"The UN-centric system is now undergoing a deep crisis, the root cause of which was brought on by the decision of certain UN members to replace international law and the UN Charter with some 'rules-based international order'," Lavrov insisted. "These mysterious 'rules' have never been the subject of transparent international consultations, nor have they been laid out for everybody’s attention."
The diplomat suggested that such rules "are being made up on the go and used to counteract the natural processes of the formation and strengthening of new independent centers of development, which
are an actual manifestation of multilateralism".
Lavrov said that there are efforts being made to restrain emerging world powers through "illegitimate unilateral measures", such as denying access to advanced technology and financial services, excluding them from supply chains, seizing assets, sabotaging the critical infrastructure of competitors, and distorting universally accepted principles and procedures.
"Washington and other Western capitals subordinate to the US are applying their 'rules' whenever they need to justify their illegitimate steps against countries that draft their policies in accordance with international law and refuse to service the selfish interests of the 'golden billion'," he wrote. "They blacklist any dissenters, deeming whoever is not with them as being opposed to them."
According to Lavrov, there are various initiatives and groups such as Summits for Democracy, the Alliance for Multilateralism, the Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence, the Global Media Freedom Coalition, and the Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace that have been established by the West to
undermine UN-led discussions on relevant issues.
He argued that these exclusive projects aim to impose non-consensual decisions that primarily favor the Western nations and are presented as the collective voice of the international community.
"First, they agree on something secretly as a small group and then present their agreements as 'the position of the international community'. Let’s face it: no one gave the Western minority the right to speak on behalf of all humankind," said the minister. "They must behave decently and respect all international community members without exception."
