WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – US President Joe Biden officially announced on Tuesday his reelection bid for 2024.
"Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours. That's why I'm running for re-election as president of the United States. Join us. Let's finish the job," Biden wrote on Twitter.
Vice President Kamala Harris also announced her plans to run for reelection next year.

"As Americans, we believe in freedom and liberty—and we believe that our democracy will only be as strong as our willingness to fight for it. That’s why @JoeBiden and I are running for reelection," she tweeted.

If Biden wins the presidential election, he would be 86 by the end of his second term. According to a recent poll conducted by US media, 70% of Americans, including 51% of Democrats, believe that the incumbent president should not run for a second term, with most of them citing concerns over Biden's age as a major or minor reason.
In its turn, the Republican Party responded to Biden's announcement by saying that he is "out of touch."
"Biden is so out of touch that after creating crisis after crisis, he thinks he deserves another four years," the Republican National Committee stated. "If voters let Biden 'finish the job,' inflation will continue to skyrocket, crime rates will rise, more fentanyl will cross our open borders, children will continue to be left behind, and American families will be worse off."
