On Wednesday, the Sudanese armed forces joined a truce for 24 hours starting 16:00 GMT (6 pm local time) announced by the RSF. The military noted that the ceasefire was adopted for humanitarian purposes, provided that the RSF will also adhere to it. The previous attempt at a truce, announced a day earlier, failed shortly after the ceasefire was due to take effect.
The army also stated that 177 Egyptian Air Force troops, captured by the RSF in the northern Sudanese town of Merowe, have been evacuated to their homeland.
"In coordination between the Sudanese and Egyptian sides, today [on Wednesday] 177 Egyptian air force specialists, who were detained in Merowe during the mutiny of the Rapid Support Forces formations, were evacuated to the Arab Republic of Egypt from Dongola airport [in northern Sudan] aboard four Egyptian military transport aircraft," the armed forces of Sudan said on social media.
Last Saturday, the RSF said that a battalion of Egyptian service members, who arrived in Sudan for exercises, had surrendered at the Merowe military airbase. The armed forces of Egypt stated they were working together with the Sudanese authorities to ensure their safety.
