Fighting between Sudan's army and the paramilitary rapid Support Forces erupted on Saturday, and has persisted since then, claiming hundreds of lives.
Ugandan Foreign Minister John Mulimba said that the country's authorities are working to organize the evacuation of their citizens from Sudan amid clashes in the country and have turned to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for help.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approached the IOM and requested support and assistance to evacuate Ugandans who may wish to return home," said Mulimba as cited by the media.
There is a total of 275 Ugandans in Sudan, he said: 120 workers, 116 students, 14 hospital patients, six citizens on short visits, 19 pilgrims.
Since April 15, fighting has been going on in Sudan between the RSF under the command of Mohamed Dagalo and the regular army.
On Tuesday morning, the RSF announced the approval of a truce for 24 hours, the country's armed forces replied that they were not aware of any agreement with the mediators on this issue. Later, a member of the Sovereign Council of Sudan, Shams al-Din Kabbashi, said that the army agreed to a truce for a period of 24 hours, starting from 18.00 Tuesday local time (16.00 GMT). He stressed that the Sudanese Armed Forces will respect the truce and monitor how it is adhered to by the RSF. A Sudanese military source told Sputnik that the truce is being introduced for humanitarian reasons, provided that it is observed in the RSF.
