LIVE UPDATES: Arab League Council Demands Immediate Cessation of Armed Clashes in Sudan

On Saturday morning, a Sputnik correspondent in Sudan reported the start of clashes between the Rapid Support Forces and the regular army in the Sudanese capital Khartoum. Later, fighting between the military forces spread to other Sudanese regions.
At least 56 people were killed and 596 injured in the clashes in Sudan, the Sudan Doctors Commitee said on social media.
Russia, as well as some other states and organizations, including the UN, AU and EU, called on the conflict sides in Sudan to cease hostilites.
"We call on the parties to the conflict to show political will and restraint and take urgent steps towards a ceasefire," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Sudan's Forces of Freedom and Change call on Army and RSF to Stop Fighting Immediately
"We call on the leadership of the Sudanese armed forces and the Rapid Support forces to arbitrate the voice of wisdom and stop military confrontations immediately and return to the negotiating tables, as the outstanding issues cannot be resolved by war and the best option for our country is to address them peacefully through political solutions," the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC), the largest civilian political coalition in Sudan, said in a statement on Sunday.
The FFC also called on the Sudanese people to "confront the plans of the remnants of the defunct National Congress Party (NCP) regime and not to allow them to be passed under any cover, and to retire hate speech, irritation and fueling the war."

Former Qatari prime minister Hamad bin Jassim has appealed to the Arab League to intervene effectively to stop the escalation in Sudan, arguing that the current situation was expected due to the continuing foreign interference in the North African country's affairs over the past few years.
"What is plaguing Sudan today is nothing but the consequences of tendentious advice and external interventions that culminated on the day of the coup against al-Bashir, and led to this precarious situation that Sudan is living now," bin Jassim said in a statement.
