The moment he switched to Yoruba, understanding lit up the classroom. Now, his multilingual approach is inspiring a wider conversation on how African students learn best.
In an enlightening discussion with Global South Pole, Dr. Kayode Adewale, recalled a pivotal moment: his students couldn’t grasp a math lesson in English until he switched to the Yoruba language. The breakthrough led him to explore studies confirming what he had already seen with his own eyes. Today, he brings in Hausa, Igbo, and Pidgin through student-led content, making math less intimidating and more empowering.
“Ever since then, I’ve observed that this improved the students’ learning outcome in mathematics, and the higher education potential of the students keeps increasing as a result of using the mother tongue,” he said.
