The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola want to continue regular consultations on the conflict in the DRC despite the end of Angolan mediation.
The announcement was made by the Angolan foreign minister, Antonio Tete, after the meeting between Félix Tshisekedi, the president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and João Lourenço, the president of Angola.
Meeting in Luanda, the two presidents agreed to continue their consultations within the framework of Angola's current responsibilities as the rotating chairman of the African Union.
According to the minister, the two heads of state also reaffirmed the "good relations" between their countries.
On March 24, Angola announced its withdrawal from mediation between Kinshasa and Kigali. This decision followed Tshisekedi's meeting with the Rwandan president in Doha, Qatar, outside the Luanda process.
The Angolan authorities publicly expressed their surprise at the meeting.
