A "historic" football match between Russia and Zambia unites Russia and the whole African continent, president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo's diaspora in Russia Boyanza Bozi Patrick told Sputnik Africa, commenting on the friendly football match that took place in Moscow on Tuesday.
"It's a friendly match that brings together the people of Russia and all of Africa. It is a historic match for both nations and for the African continent. Africa is still supporting Russia despite the football sanctions," the Congolese diaspora president noted.
Reflecting on history, Patrick highlighted the Soviet Union's consistent support for African nations during the colonial era, adding that cooperation with modern Russia continues in the present day.
"But we are still together because we still hold on to the history of all of Russia and particularly of the Soviet Union. Because during the colonial era, the Soviet Union or Russia was always on the side of Africa. Today, Russia, under the sanctions that have been imposed, we are still there to support Russian athletes," he emphasized.
