A powerful explosion targeted a military convoy in Siinka Dheer, a suburb of Mogadishu, local media outlet Baidoa Online reported on Monday.
While the extent of the damage and potential casualties is still being assessed, the militant group Al-Shabaab has already claimed responsibility, the report added.
In a related incident, a military base in Afgooye town, located in the Lower Shabelle region, was attacked with multiple mortar shells. At least 10 rounds are reported to have struck the base, although details on casualties or damage remain unclear. The attack caused widespread panic in areas of the town, including the local market, according to the media.
Afgooye holds strategic importance in the conflict, especially as Al-Shabaab militants continue to advance, recently capturing the Sabiid military base and now positioned just 10 km southwest of Afgooye. The town is situated approximately 30 km west of Mogadishu.
