The Sudanese army is getting closer to retaking the Presidential Palace in Khartoum from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to the local media.
The RSF initially seized the palace and most of Khartoum at the start of the war in April 2023, but the Sudanese Armed Forces have since been regaining territory and advancing toward the palace along the Nile.
The fight for the Presidential Palace has been intense, with the RSF resisting. Despite orders from leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo to hold the palace, the army has launched airstrikes in Khartoum, showcasing its air power advantage, although the RSF has displayed increasing drone capabilities.
The RSF announced their advance towards the Army General Command, attacking from the south. However, the progress of the army has been welcomed by displaced residents who accuse the RSF of looting, killing, and occupying homes, according to the media.
The RSF still controls areas of Khartoum, Omdurman, and western Sudan, where it's battling for al-Fashir, the army's last stronghold in Darfur.
