Nigeriens, reacting to their country's withdrawal from the International Organization of La Francophonie, called it a "historic decision."
"Over time, we've come to understand that La Francophonie has become a mechanism, like ECOWAS, like other regional and even international organizations, working for Western imperialism, particularly French imperialism," one of the citizens said, noting that "Niamey is the cradle of La Francophonie."
Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali announced their decision to withdraw from the organization, citing its failure to help them achieve their goals of sovereignty and democracy.
