According to a statement by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Israel launched massive air strikes on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas political bureau member Izzat al-Risheq said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to return to war means a death sentence for the Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip.
"Netanyahu's decision to return to war is a decision to sacrifice the prisoners of [Israel's] occupation and sentence them to death," al-Risheq said.
Hamas earlier said Netanyahu had ended the ceasefire and exposed the hostages in the Gaza Strip to an "unknown fate."
The truce between Israel and Hamas officially ended on March 1, but hostilities have not resumed due to attempts by mediators to involve the parties in continuing negotiations on a settlement in Gaza.
The death toll from Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip on Tuesday night had exceeded 326, according to the ministry of health, with hundreds injured.
