A group of approximately 40 journalists has signed a letter to US President Donald Trump asking to lift the Biden-era sanctions on Rossiya Segodnya and TV Novosti.
“On Sept. 13, 2024, under the direction of [former Secretary of State] Antony Blinken, the Biden State Department placed unprecedented sanctions on the Russian news organization RT, with whom my company contracts to produce fair, factual, and honest news and opinion programming,” the letter published on Monday reads.
The letter has been published by Ben Swann, the founder and CEO of a social media channel called "Truth in Media," and signed by dozens of other journalists.
“We ask you to drop all sanctions against RT, Sputnik and TV Novosti and allow the public square to remain free for all voices, all journalists and all points of view.”
The letter states that sanctions imposed by the Biden administration were nothing else but “corruption on display” and a violation of the US Constitution.
Swann also emphasized that the majority of journalists who worked for the sanctioned media outlets are American citizens who, on top of losing their jobs, also lost the opportunity to share their reporting with more than 800 million people around the globe.
