Nigerian President Bola Tinubu gave the green light for the provisional licenses for 11 new private universities in the country.
Tinubu's approval of these new universities shows a commitment to expanding educational access, Education Minister Tunji Alausa stated. He clarified the approvals were for pending applications despite concerns about university proliferation and a general moratorium.
The federal government also allocated $1.67 million for satellite monitoring devices at key mining sites. According to Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake, this aims to protect investments by providing real-time activity data.
Alake also stated that illegal mining had cost Nigeria trillions of dollars. He announced a new initiative approved by the Federal Executive Council to improve regulation and reduce revenue losses.
