In a statement, Algeria's upper house of parliament, the Council of the Nation, announced that all ties with the French Senate, including a 2015 cooperation protocol, would be cut off immediately.
The move followed French Senate Speaker Gérard Larcher's visit to Laayoune, the main city in Western Sahara, on Monday.
Morocco proposes autonomy for Western Sahara under its rule, while the Polisario Front, supported by Algeria, demands a self-determination referendum.
