Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, asked to comment on a new US legislative initiative on withdrawing from the United Nations, suggested on Sunday to "wait and see" if the Republican-led initiative was serious.
"Let's wait and see how serious this is. The point is that this party, it's not really monolithic. There are disagreements and so on," Peskov told Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin.
There is no substitute or alternative to the UN at the moment, the Kremlin's spokesman said.
"Regarding the UN, we have nothing to replace it with. In the current world picture, we obviously have no possibility to agree on the creation of a new UN. It is now impossible to imagine that the Russians, Americans, French, Germans, British would agree on the creation of a new UN. There is no such possibility," Peskov said.
