Liberian President Joseph Boakai suspended on Wednesday more than 400 top officials for failing to declare their assets to the country’s anti-corruption agency.
The suspension, which lasts for one month without pay, affects high-ranking officials, including the chairman of the National Oil Company of Liberia, the minister of commerce and industry, and ambassadors to the US, UK, and the United Nations.
Additionally, on Thursday, the president placed Emma Metieh-Glassco, Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NAFAA), on leave following a recommendation from the NAFAA Board of Directors. She faces investigation by the Ministry of Justice and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) over alleged managerial and financial inefficiencies, as well as accusations of inappropriate conduct during an official investigation.
