Tanzania has launched a mobile app for its National Physical Addressing System (NaPA) to enhance transportation and security.
“The [National Physical Addressing] NaPA system is a game-changer in our transport sector. It will make it easier for drivers to locate passengers with pinpoint accuracy, reducing travel time and improving security,” the minister for Information, Communication and Information Technology, Jerry Silaa, said at the launch event.
The NaPA app uses geolocation technology to streamline ride requests. Passengers enter their address, allowing drivers to navigate quickly to their location, especially in areas with informal address systems. This technology also enhances safety by logging all transactions, minimizing the risk of passengers or drivers getting lost or falling victim to scams.
The launch of NaPA aligns with Tanzania's broader initiative to drive digital transformation across sectors like governance, banking, healthcare, and agriculture. Minister Silaa encouraged digital innovators to leverage the NaPA system to enhance service delivery nationwide.
