Russia's Putin Expresses Support for Brazil's BRICS Chairmanship, Brazilian Presidential Office Says

BUENOS AIRES (Sputnik) - Brazilian President Lula has been invited to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Victory Day in Moscow and expressed his intention to attend, noted the statement by the Brazilian presidential office, issued after a phone conversation between the leaders of Brazil and Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed support for Brazil's chairmanship of BRICS during a telephone conversation with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the Brazilian presidential office said in a statement Monday.
"Putin expressed support for Brazil's BRICS chairmanship and expressed readiness to continue working to promote trade and investment facilitation initiatives among the members [of the association]," the statement said.
Due to the transfer of the BRICS chairmanship from Russia to Brazil in 2025, the mutual commitment to closely coordinate positions on the entire extensive agenda of the BRICS activities was confirmed, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement following the phone conversation between the leaders of Russia and Brazil.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the discussion focused on the further development of bilateral strategic partnership in the political, trade and economic spheres. The parties also outlined future contacts at various levels.

"The leaders discussed the current situation in the world, including in connection with the new US administration coming to power," the Russian ministry added in the statement.
