"The Government of Sierra Leone is aware of recent media reports alleging the presence of an individual referred to as Jos Leijdekkers—apparently a convicted drug felon and one of Europe's most wanted individuals—within Sierra Leone. The reports also claim that the said individual was seen in photographs taken during events attended by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio and his family," the ministry noted.
"During the festive season, the president attended numerous family events and public gatherings, where photographs were taken with many attendees. The president has no knowledge of the identity and the issues detailed in the reports about the individual in question. The Government of Sierra Leone has not received any formal communication from any country or institution regarding this Jos Leijdekkers," it said.
"A transparent and thorough investigation is underway to establish all the facts surrounding these allegations, including the identity and alleged activities of this said individual in Sierra Leone. The Sierra Leone Police is ready to collaborate with the Dutch Government, Interpol, and other international law enforcement agencies to ensure full cooperation and accountability," read the statement.
