The African Union called for an immediate end to the deadly fighting in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Fighting between M23 rebels and foreign peacekeepers has intensified in eastern DRC, with reports of casualties among the peacekeepers. Congolese authorities accuse Rwanda of supporting the rebels, a charge Kigali denies.
Moussa Faki Mahamat, the African Union Commission's chair, called for "the immediate cessation of all hostilities" and "strongly urges the parties to preserve the lives of civilians."
