Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed his Somali counterpart Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at Al-Ittihadiya Palace for an official ceremony. Following bilateral and expanded delegation talks, they signed a strategic partnership declaration and several related memorandums of understanding.
Building on the successful October 2024 Asmara tripartite summit (Egypt, Somalia, Eritrea), the leaders agreed to hold a second summit to further cooperation. They also reviewed progress in bilateral relations, particularly since the launch of the Cairo-Mogadishu EgyptAir route.
Enhanced cooperation was agreed upon across several sectors: health, justice, capacity building, and military affairs, including the implementation of a military cooperation protocol to strengthen Somali security and facilitate participation in the new African Union mission in Somalia.
El-Sisi praised the newly signed agreement on diplomatic training and diplomatic passport visa exemptions. He emphasized that this strengthens Egypt-Somalia cooperation, reiterating Egypt's continued support for Somalia's security and stability, vital to Egypt's own national interests.
