CAIRO (Sputnik) - More than 43,000 Palestinian civilians, mostly children and women, have been killed since Israel's retaliatory war in Gaza began after an attack by the Palestinian movement Hamas on Oct. 7, according to the Gaza health ministry. Hundreds more have been reported killed in the occupied West Bank.

A ceasefire agreement on the Gaza Strip has been reached, and a joint statement will soon be issued, Egyptian broadcaster Al Qahera News reported on Wednesday, citing an informed Egyptian source.

"An agreement has been reached through the efforts of mediators that will end the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza [...] A joint statement will be issued soon," the source said.

A delegation from the Palestinian movement Hamas has conveyed to mediators its consent to conclude an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and an exchange of hostages, the Al Jazeera broadcaster reported on Wednesday, citing the movement's statement.
