After arriving back in Mozambique, opposition leader Venancio Mondlane on Sunday urged people to take part in a new three-day strike.
"We must declare a national strike [...] paralyze activities during these three days," Mondlane said in a video published on his social media account.
Mozambique's immigration authorities withdrew the diplomatic passport of the opposition, the National Migration Service said in a press release, explaining that border control officers at Maputo International Airport, where Mondlane arrived on Thursday, noticed that he was travelling with a rejected passport because its holder had resigned as a member of parliament.
Mondlane, an independent candidate, lost the October 9 presidential election to the ruling FRELIMO party's candidate Daniel Chapo, whose inauguration is scheduled for next Wednesday.
The runner-up expressed his disagreement with the election results, saying the poll was rigged, and called for the nationwide riots, which began in Mozambique on October 24 and left at least 21 protesters dead, according to police reports.
