Russia increased gas exports to the European Union to 54.45 billion cubic meters in 2024, which allowed the country to overtake the United States and become the second-largest gas supplier to the bloc, a Sputnik analysis of Bruegel data showed.
Russia's share of the EU gas market increased from 14.2% to 18.3% since 2023.
Only Norway supplied more gas to the EU last year – 93.3 billion cubic meters against 90.3 billion the year before. The US, which was the second-largest gas exporter to the EU in 2023, reduced supplies by almost 18% in 2024 to 51.3 billion cubic meters and became the third. As a result, its share fell from 19.7% to 17.2% over the year.
