Tanzania exported the first batch of honey to China, which marked a significant step for the beekeeping industry, Tanzanian Minister for Industry and Trade Selemani Jafo said at the flag-off of the first batch of Tanzanian honey to China on Wednesday.
"We are opening a significant market that will benefit local beekeepers and processors. It’s time for Tanzania to fully seize the opportunities in China and beyond," he noted.
The first trial shipment consists of 10 tonnes of honey worth over 100 million Tanzanian rupees (about $41,200), the Ministry of Industry and Trade said in a statement, citing the minister.
"This is not just about exporting honey, but also symbolized the realization of the vision of economic growth and international cooperation," Jafo emphasized.
The government is investing in infrastructure and environmental protection to support the honey industry's expansion, he added.
