The death toll from two separate stampedes at food distribution centers in Nigeria has risen to 32, Nigerian police said Sunday, amid the West African country's worsening economic crisis.
Twenty-two people died in a stampede outside a rice distribution center in Okija, southern Nigeria, on Saturday, while at least ten others perished in a separate incident outside a church in Abuja offering food to the vulnerable and elderly.
The Anambra state police confirmed the Okija death toll and stated that investigations were ongoing.
In Abuja, four children were among the victims at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, with eight others injured.
