Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba has emphasized the urgent need for scientific exchanges in biotechnology research between Namibian institutions and Cuba’s Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

"Applauding the Centre for its cutting-edge research and manufacturing capabilities, President Mbumba highlighted with urgency the need for scientific exchanges in biotechnology research to be initiated between the Centre and Namibian institutions," the statement read, emphasizing the center's advanced technology and the much-needed collaboration.

Mbumba’s visit to the center formed part of broader efforts to strengthen exchanges in biotechnology research and manufacturing.

"In order to cement economic exchanges in the fields of biotechnology research and manufacturing, President Mbumba visited the Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology," the statement read.

The statement further noted that during official talks with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, Mbumba expressed his satisfaction with the agreement to enhance the Cuba-Namibia Joint Working Group Meeting.

“President Nangolo Mbumba expressed satisfaction with the decision to elevate the Cuba-Namibia Joint Working Group Meeting to an Intergovernmental Commission for Bilateral Cooperation to be operationalized through a Memorandum of Understanding,” the statement stressed.

Health and education; work and transport; tourism and environmental management; and sports are some of the areas in which Namibia and Cuba currently collaborate.
