The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has suspended its field missions in Syria and will begin assessing the country's agricultural sector when conditions allow, spokesperson Irina Utkina told RIA Novosti.
"The activities of the field missions have been temporarily suspended until the security situation improves. We will use this period to focus on preparatory activities for upcoming procedures with a wider range of UN representatives to ensure readiness for a coordinated response," Utkina said.
She added that FAO is closely monitoring the security situation and is ready to assess the situation in the agricultural sector as soon as the situation in Syria allows.
Utkina noted that FAO will continue to use its technical expertise to help the people of Syria.
