Human Contact & Literary Exchange Necessary for Ending Ukraine Conflict, Writer Says

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine, citing Kiev's failure to adhere to the Minsk agreements, which were intended to grant the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk special status within the Ukrainian state. These protocols, brokered by Germany and France, were initially signed in 2014.

To end the Ukrainian conflict, we need to renew human contacts and foster literary exchange, Vladimir Fedorovsky, a French writer of Russian origin and a former Soviet diplomat, told Sputnik Africa.
"Sometimes, we need to stop reading secret reports. We need to read the great Russian literature," he said.
He recommended avoiding "excessive language" by noting that "never during the Cold War did we practice this kind of thing."
"We need to return to certain rules of diplomacy. To be frank, we need to return to diplomacy, period," the writer stated.
He also added that most French and Germans support negotiations, with German support being particularly strong. Fedorovsky also noted that a majority of Republicans and Democrats in the United States support a change in US policy towards Ukraine and the resumption of diplomatic contact.

Fedorovsky observed a similar desire for peace among most Russians and Ukrainians, urging that their voices be heard. He concluded by suggesting that if the public's voice was ignored, the potentially game-changing opinions of writers should at least be considered.
