Russian experts could set up "model farms" in Africa to demonstrate agricultural technologies, a Senegalese economist said.
Russia is a country that supplies a significant portion of the world's grain; it has exceptional technological and production capacity for cereals and can help Senegal in this sector, the Emergence Institute president and former chief economist to several Senegalese prime ministers, Moubarack Lo, told Sputnik Africa.

"It is time for Russia not only to be a supplier but also to develop technical partnerships with African countries. This will enable Africa to gradually master the technology of wheat production, which is part of our eating habits," he explained.

Mubarak Lo also welcomed the Great African Expedition, organized by Moscow to conduct scientific research in the coastal waters of 18 West African states and the western part of the Indian Ocean, and called for "strong cooperation in the field of fisheries."
"Russia can help in the fight against illegal fishing by equipping the countries with patrol vessels and surveillance equipment," he said.

Senegal May Highly Possibly Triple its GDP Before 2050

"Senegal has just discovered oil and gas, so over the next few years we're going to see an acceleration in growth, which could even exceed 10% initially," Moubarack Lo noted.

To maintain a high pace of economic growth, it will be necessary to invest revenues from hydrocarbon resources in economic diversification, he pointed out.
According to the speaker, it is possible for Senegal to move up the value chain towards the processing of oil and gas within the country.
Moreover, the government's ambition is to develop the industry and modernize agriculture besides the hydrocarbons sector, Lo said, referring to the Senegal Vision 2050 project presented in October by the country's President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
"And this may even enable us to reach this objective before 2050, because the growth rate that has been retained can quite feasibly be exceeded to achieve a tripling of GDP per capita as quickly as possible," he concluded.
